Welding Services

Welding

Vulcan Industries Corporation specializes in welding services that include automated robotic MIG welding, resistance welding, TIG welding, laser welding, and spot welding.
Our industrial welding services are geared towards medium to high volume production to support the supply of complete assemblies.
Our primary focus is to support our metal stamping and tube forming operations to ensures consistent quality and short lead times.

At Vulcan Industries, we primarily engage in four welding techniques.

• MIG (metal inert gas welding): Also known as gas metal arc welding (GMAW), MIG uses an inert shielding gas to protect the weld from inclusions and contamination. This produces a clean, high-quality weld.MIG uses a DC voltage fed through a continuous wire electrode. The weld bead is uniform and there is no slag to worry about, which produces long, continuous welds. MIG welding can be used to weld carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and even dissimilar materials. MIG welding is ideally suited to robotic welding.

• TIG (tungsten inert gas welding): Also known as gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), TIG welding uses a tungsten electrode and a hand-held filler rod. The weld is shielded by an inert gas such as helium or argon. Although slower than MIG welding, it is ideal for precise welding of thin-gauge metals. There is no slag or splatter, welds are high quality, and the limited heat input reduces distortion. The welding current may be AC or DC depending upon the application.

• Resistance welding: In resistance welding, two parts are firmly held together by two electrodes while low voltage AC current is passed between the electrodes. The resulting high current melts the metal between the electrodes, welding the two parts together. Resistance welding is also known as spot welding or projection welding. The process is simple, easy to control and requires no consumable electrodes or flux. It does not form a continuous weld.

• Stainless steel welding: There are several types of stainless steel including austenitic, ferritic, martensitic and austenitic-ferritic duplex steel. The weldability of these steels varies. It is essential the right process is chosen to ensure that corrosion resistance and physical strength of the stainless steel is not affected. Welding processes used include MIG, TIG and resistance welding. Vulcan Industries is one of few companies with the ability to perform high-quality, production-orientated stainless steel welding.
